The Ravenna Mosaics
Ravenna is famous for being home to some of the most beautiful mosaics in the world. The Battistero Neoniano is the most ancient monument in town and was finished by Bishop Neon (hence the name) in the 5th century. The ceiling mosaic depicts the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River and, because of its incredible beauty and old age, today is registered as one of the 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in town.
