The Santa Reparata is the former cathedral of Florence, Italy. And it has become the only archeological site which can be visited in town. Since last September, the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore gives the opportunity to discovery 14 centuries of history and arts in 700 m2. Before Florence became the birthplace of the Renaissance under the de ‘Medici’s family, before Giotto and Donatello, Leonardo and Michelangelo, the ancient “Florentia” was a true Roman town. The new layout of the archaeological trail in the vaults of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with the remains of the church of Santa Reparata, includes the history of the Cathedral as well as the historical city planning from the Roman and early Christian ages. The area was open in 1974 for the first time, but now it reveals all the treasures thanks to detailed description and the use of the latest digital technology.
